Bill ModisettTexas author and newsman Bill Modisett heads this company based in Midland, Texas and which includes Staked Plains Press, Historic Happenings, and Modisett Woodcraft. Formerly an award-winning business writer for the Odessa American, Modisett continues to write freelance articles for the Odessa American, Midland Reporter-Telegram and other publications. A native of Winters, Texas, he was educated at Angelo State University in San Angelo. Since starting his newspaper career in 1969 as a reporter for the San Angelo Standard-Times, Modisett has worked on the staffs of the Polk County Enterprise, the Midland Reporter-Telegram, The Monahans News and the Odessa American. He and his wife, Kimberly, have resided in Midland since 1979. They have three children, Tammy Dombroski of Eldorado, and Chris Modisett and Claire Modisett, both of Midland, and four grandchildren.


This publication arm of the company was founded prior to the release in 1996 of J. Evetts Haley: A True Texas Legend. On Nov. 20, 2008, the company will release its second book, An American Masterpiece: Memories of Rosalind Kress Haley. While serving as editorial page editor of the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Bill Modisett wrote a popular Sunday column entitlted "Historical Markers" that focused on local history in Midland County and the surrounding area of West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico. Now he offers a similar weekly historical column to newspapers in the West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico area called "Historic Happenings." The column sells for $15 per week and is provided to newspapers either in scanner ready hard copy or electronically by email. A black and white photograph accompanies each column.
